Ahead of next week’s UN General Assembly, government has pointed fingers at local media for painting the country as xenophobic. International Relations minister Naledi Pandor will be leading a delegation of ministers to the session. Pretoria will be at pains to dispel suggestions that South Africans are anti-immigrants.
President Cyril Ramaphosa cancelled his attendance to deal with urgent domestic issues.
He’s since sent Envoys to several African countries to defuse tensions.
